The company

Founded in 2013, Cailabs designs, manufactures, and develops innovative photonic solutions for the space, industry, telecommunications, and defense sectors. A global specialist in laser shaping, the company has accelerated its growth in the space field with turnkey optical ground stations that integrate atmospheric turbulence compensation technology. This makes it one of the first companies to harness very high data rates enabled by optics in a commercial ground station.

Cailabs currently has over 120 employees, including 32 PhDs. With 26 patent families filed, the company is one of the most innovative companies in France. It is headquartered in Rennes, with offices in Paris and Washington (USA).

Internship description

Laser communications are the next generation of secure, high-speed space communications. Dedicated to optical communications in free space, the TILBA solution improves the reliability of satellite, naval, aeronautical (aircraft, drones) and terrestrial links.

You will be working in the Systems team under the responsibility of a Systems Architect. The main subject of the placement is the design of the system architecture for resilience to failure of ground-satellite communication stations. In addition to this, you will contribute to the various missions of the Systems team.

Your work will benefit all teams working on ground-satellite communication stations, systems teams and potentially other products.

Your main objective will be to strengthen the architecture of the stations by designing the security architecture (human and hardware) of the system. This work will be carried out in conjunction with the technical teams. Here is an example of how the assignment might unfold:

- Identification of external and internal failures (classification, categorisation, etc.)

- Identification of functional & technical causes (fault tree modelling, etc.)

- Design of failure mitigation solutions

- Verification and validation of solutions

You will also be asked to work on various system architecture or cross-departmental issues, depending on the needs of the moment. These may be short assignments (e.g. software studies, variability studies, tests, etc.) or long assignments (e.g. product or sub-system architecture, etc.).

You will have the opportunity to use and improve your knowledge of System Architecture, and you will learn to work as part of a company team on practical issues.
