Founded in 2013, Cailabs specializes in laser shaping with our unique, patented technology, Multi Plane Light Conversion (MPLC). We develop photonic solutions for satellite communications, industrial applications, fiber optic telecommunications, and defense. Cailabs is based in France with an expanding presence in the U.S.

Since 2020, we've been rapidly growing in optical ground stations and free-space optical communications, targeting U.S. government, commercial, and defense markets. Our MPLC technology helps mitigate atmospheric turbulence, enabling ultra-high-speed satellite communications. Cailabs currently employs over 120 people, including 35 PhDs, and holds 26 patent families.

Join Cailabs US Inc. as a Senior Optical Engineer and help shape the future of space communications technology!

As a Senior Optical Engineer, in close collaboration with the President of Cailabs US Inc., the product and program management teams, as well as R&D and sales teams, your role will be to lead technical initiatives in the U.S. market, aligning U.S. customers with state-of-the-art optical ground station solutions.

 

Responsabilities :

  • Provide optical technical expertise to the US team, leveraging a deep understanding of our technology gained through close collaboration with our R&D teams in France.
  • Lead technical efforts in the U.S. market, aligning customers with optical ground station solutions.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for U.S. Government customers, managing strategy discussions, technical meetings, and program reviews.
  • Communicate program status and performance metrics to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure program alignment with customer requirements.
  • Develop technical plans, identify execution barriers and help teams mitigate risks.
  • Manage key program documentation (requirements, test matrices, compliance).
  • Guide decisions to meet program objectives and recommend scope changes.
  • Provide clear recommendations and collaborate with the Cailabs team.
  • Oversee U.S. installation and deployment of optical ground stations with the installation team.
  • Stay informed on Free Space Optical Communication trends and technologies.

Profile required

  • 12+ years of directly related experience in lasers, optical communications integration and test, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expertise in Optical Technologies: Strong background in optical communication systems, especially Free Space Optical Communication (FSO) and related technologies.
  • Comfort in working with global teams, especially with French product and technical teams, ensuring smooth collaboration across time zones and cultures.
  • A technology leader with a proven track record in innovation strategy within new product development, strategic planning, goal setting, process development and budgeting.
  • Ability to drive complex projects to success, drive clarity, create focus and make tough decisions in complex and dynamic contexts.
  • Good communication, leadership and strategic thinking abilities with a problem-solving aptitude.
  • Ability to simplify technical topics and present them in clear business terms.
  • Ability to identify new opportunities.
  • Oral and written communication skills with the ability to present with credibility a technical or business case to executive leadership and Board.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience working with commercial and Federal customers
  • PhD in Optics related field
  • Experience in an international environment is desirable
  • French Language Skills.
