The company
Founded in 2013, Cailabs designs, manufactures, and develops innovative photonic solutions for the space, industry, telecommunications, and defense sectors. A global specialist in laser shaping, the company has accelerated its growth in the space field with turnkey optical ground stations that integrate atmospheric turbulence compensation technology. This makes it one of the first companies to harness very high data rates enabled by optics in a commercial ground station.
Cailabs currently has over 120 employees, including 32 PhDs. With 26 patent families filed, the company is one of the most innovative companies in France. It is headquartered in Rennes, with offices in Paris and Washington (USA).
Internship description
Laser communications are the next generation of secure, high-speed space communications. Dedicated to optical communications in free space, the TILBA solution improves the reliability of satellite, naval, aeronautical (aircraft, drones) and terrestrial links.
You will be working in the R&D team under the supervision of a PhD in physics, an R&D engineer and an expert in digital simulations. The aim of the internship project is to develop and improve opto-electronic systems that are useful for the TILBA solution, using digital simulations that are representative of real components. As part of this internship, you will be applying your knowledge of Python programming, geometric and wave optics, optoelectronics (for example to model sensor noise effects) and automatic control (control law, transfer functions, etc.). The tasks can be adapted to suit your background and interests.
Your work will benefit the whole of the R&D department by addressing optical problems in the space sector.
Your objective will be to develop an opto-electronic system using digital simulation to improve our TILBA product range systems for space communications.
You will have the opportunity to use and improve your scientific knowledge, and you will learn to work as part of a company team on practical issues.
