The company
Founded in 2013, Cailabs designs, manufactures, and develops innovative photonic solutions for the space, industry, telecommunications, and defense sectors. A global specialist in laser shaping, the company has accelerated its growth in the space field with turnkey optical ground stations that integrate atmospheric turbulence compensation technology. This makes it one of the first companies to harness very high data rates enabled by optics in a commercial ground station.
Cailabs currently has 150 employees, including 35 PhDs. With 29 patent families filed, the company is one of the most innovative companies in France. It is headquartered in Rennes, with offices in Paris and Washington (USA).
Internship description
You will work within the technical team under the supervision of a PhD in physics, who is the head of R&D projects. The internship project aims to improve the analysis of high-power (kW) continuous wave and/or high-energy pulsed laser beam shaping. Beam shaping is one of Cailabs' key areas of expertise, enabling industry to optimise certain manufacturing processes in terms of time and energy consumption.
Your objective will be to calibrate the detectors used and improve the beam shape analysis protocols.
On the detector side, you will be involved in:
- Proposing and implementing an experimental protocol for calibrating the detectors used (cameras).
- Interfacing these detectors via Python (or other) in order to implement the corrections required following the measurements taken.
On the beam shaping side (in parallel with the study of detectors, depending on interest):
- Study and critique the metrics used in the analysis of beam shapes.
- Propose new metrics.
- Propose a robust methodology for applying the analyses studied.
Profile required
Key skills:
- Training in physics or mathematics
- Knowledge of signal analysis
- An interest in experimentation, IT and data processing
Bonus points:
- Knowledge of the Python programming language
- Knowledge of optics
- Rigour, motivation and autonomy
When you join Cailabs, you'll find :
- A dynamic team of engineers and PhDs who share your desire to apply your skills to stimulating technical challenges,
- Collective emulation and a strong intellectual interest in your work,
- A company at the cutting edge of technology, from the development of prototypes through to the industrialisation phases.
Plus :
- Time for sharing and conviviality (annual seminar, meals, group games, sports activities, etc.).
- A modern, pleasant working environment, conducive to collaborative working
- Luncheon vouchers
Finally, joining Cailabs is the assurance that everything will be done to help you develop new skills.
