The company

Founded in 2013, Cailabs designs, manufactures, and develops innovative photonic solutions for the space, industry, telecommunications, and defense sectors. A global specialist in laser shaping, the company has accelerated its growth in the space field with turnkey optical ground stations that integrate atmospheric turbulence compensation technology. This makes it one of the first companies to harness very high data rates enabled by optics in a commercial ground station.

Cailabs currently has more than 200 employees, including 41PhDs. With 29 patent families filed, the company is one of the most innovative companies in France. It is headquartered in Rennes, with offices in Paris and Washington (USA).

Post description

You will join the Research & Development teams working on free-space optical communication solutions. The internship will be carried out under the supervision of your internship supervisor, in close collaboration with the Software Development and Verification & Validation teams.

The aim of the internship project is to improve the calibration algorithms used in optical systems integrated into optical ground stations.

At the intersection of optics, instrumentation and software development, this internship will give you the opportunity to compare the physical behaviour of optical systems with the performance of calibration algorithms.

After analysing the performance and limitations of the existing calibration methods, your objective will be to design, develop and validate new approaches to improve the robustness, accuracy, speed and automation of our calibration algorithms.

You will develop these algorithm improvements in Python and experimentally evaluate the solutions using our existing test facilities. To do so, you will define test plans and performance criteria to validate your algorithms.
