The company

Founded in 2013, Cailabs designs, manufactures, and develops innovative photonic solutions for the space, industry, telecommunications, and defense sectors. A global specialist in laser shaping, the company has accelerated its growth in the space field with turnkey optical ground stations that integrate atmospheric turbulence compensation technology. This makes it one of the first companies to harness very high data rates enabled by optics in a commercial ground station.

Cailabs currently has more than 200 employees, including 41PhDs. With 29 patent families filed, the company is one of the most innovative companies in France. It is headquartered in Rennes, with offices in Paris and Washington (USA).

Post description

You will work within the “Instrumentation Test Benches” team, under the supervision of Justin Rouxel, Optical R&D Engineer.

As part of the development of future test benches and photonic systems to meet the company’s needs, we are offering a final-year engineering or Master’s degree internship focused on the design of a tunable, controllable and modulatable optical source.

The intern will contribute to the system architecture, the integration of photonic and electronic components, as well as the development of control and characterization tools. Depending on the candidate’s profile, the work may include electronic design, embedded programming (Python) and CAD (SolidWorks for 3D printing).

The objective is to develop a functional demonstrator based on a modulated source already available at Cailabs, evaluate its performance and compare it with a commercial solution also available at Cailabs. This internship offers a strong experimental and multidisciplinary component, at the interface between photonics, electronics and instrumentation.
