The company
Founded in 2013, Cailabs designs, manufactures, and develops innovative photonic solutions for the space, industry, telecommunications, and defense sectors. A global specialist in laser shaping, the company has accelerated its growth in the space field with turnkey optical ground stations that integrate atmospheric turbulence compensation technology. This makes it one of the first companies to harness very high data rates enabled by optics in a commercial ground station.
Cailabs currently has 150 employees, including 35 PhDs. With 29 patent families filed, the company is one of the most innovative companies in France. It is headquartered in Rennes, with offices in Paris and Washington (USA).
Internship description
You will work within the product team under the supervision of the Product Line Manager responsible for industrial laser process products. The internship project aims to develop optical calculation tools to support the sale of complex technical products.
The Canunda range includes many products, the use of which always differs slightly from one customer to another. For each customer, it is therefore necessary to perform numerous calculations to determine which set-up is required to achieve their desired results and what performance they will actually obtain when using the product with this set-up. The aim of the internship is to enable a high-quality user experience for performing these calculations, ideally to be implemented online on the website. The first calculation tools will be:
- Verify that the beam will not crop based on the target top-hat size in the process plan, the desired steepness, and the set-up,
- Suggest solutions in case of beam cropping,
Then verify which lenses to add to the optical path to achieve this top-hat, - Check the quality of the top hat in the field based on the F-theta.
- Check the quality of the top hat based on the depth of field, etc.
The tools to be developed will need to interface with Zemax and Cailabs' own tools coded in Python. They will then need to work online on the website and allow the customer to obtain a design report.
