The company
Founded in 2013, Cailabs designs, manufactures, and develops innovative photonic solutions for the space, industry, telecommunications, and defense sectors. A global specialist in laser shaping, the company has accelerated its growth in the space field with turnkey optical ground stations that integrate atmospheric turbulence compensation technology. This makes it one of the first companies to harness very high data rates enabled by optics in a commercial ground station.
Cailabs currently has 150 employees, including 35 PhDs. With 29 patent families filed, the company is one of the most innovative companies in France. It is headquartered in Rennes, with offices in Paris and Washington (USA).
Internship description
Laser communications represent the next generation of secure, high-speed space communications. Dedicated to free-space optical communications, the TILBA solution improves the reliability of satellite links as well as naval, aeronautical (aircraft, drones) and terrestrial links.
You will work in the R&D team under the supervision of a PhD in physics, R&D engineer and expert in numerical simulations.
Your objective will be to study the analytical and numerical propagation of Hermite-Gaussian modes in free space, under the influence of atmospheric turbulence and pointing errors. You will draw on relevant scientific literature to define mathematical models relevant to the subject and quantitatively assess the impact of atmospheric turbulence and pointing errors on optical space communications links.
Your work will benefit the entire R&D department in addressing optical problems in the space sector. You will have the opportunity to apply and improve your scientific knowledge, and you will learn to work in a team within a company on concrete topics.
